About the CIFAR Global Scholars Program
The CIFAR Global Scholars Program supports early-career researchers during their first years as independent principal investigators. Participants have opportunities to develop and lead high-risk, high-reward interdisciplinary research while strengthening their professional networks and research leadership skills.
CIFAR welcomes candidates working across the natural sciences, biomedical sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Successful applicants become part of an interdisciplinary CIFAR research program and collaborate with research leaders working on major scientific and societal questions.

Eligibility Criteria
CIFAR welcomes applicants from all countries. Candidates must meet the programme’s academic and professional requirements.
• Hold a PhD or equivalent.
• Hold a full-time position at an institution of higher education or research.
• Have responsibility for leading independent research as a principal investigator.
• Have responsibility for supervising or teaching graduate-level trainees toward completion of a degree.
• Hold a position that will remain secure throughout the full programme term from April 1, 2027 to March 31, 2029.
• Engage in research that complements the themes and goals of a recruiting CIFAR research program.
Where the tenure-track system applies, applicants are expected to hold a full-time tenure-track position. In other settings, equivalent positions may be considered if they provide comparable research independence and a pathway to a permanent faculty appointment. Applicants must also satisfy the additional criteria listed on the official CIFAR Global Scholars Program page.
