About the Consilium Traineeships 2027
The Consilium traineeship programme gives graduates from different backgrounds the opportunity to gain practical experience of EU policy-making and the Council’s daily activities.
The Council offers traineeships twice each year, with 110 traineeship positions available annually. Opportunities are available across several professional areas.

The current application round is for the traineeship period from 1 February to 30 June 2027.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the eligibility conditions listed by the Council.
• Hold EU citizenship.
• Have a bachelor’s degree or higher.
• Have a very good knowledge of English or French.
• Have a very good knowledge of at least one other EU language.
• Have no previous work experience at another EU institution.
The programme is designed for graduates from a range of academic backgrounds, provided they meet these requirements.

Traineeship Period and Selection Timeline
The Council offers two traineeship periods each year.
For the current February–June cycle, applications are accepted from mid-July to mid-September. Candidates are then selected between October and December.
The 2027 traineeship covered by the current application round will run from:
• Start: 1 February 2027
• End: 30 June 2027
• Duration: 5 months
The application deadline is 15 September 2026 at 12:00 Brussels time.
The second annual traineeship period normally runs from 1 September to 31 January. Applications for that period can be submitted in February and March, with candidate selection taking place from April to June.

Positive Action Programme
The Council also reserves up to six traineeships each year for EU nationals with a recognised disability.
The programme provides participants with experience of EU policy and law-making while offering special workplace arrangements where necessary.
