The scholarship enables cultural practitioners from countries on the DAC list to deepen their professional knowledge through a stay with a host institution.
The programme supports transnational exchange, new perspectives, and long-term cooperation. Its focus includes cultural heritage, collections, archive records, and institutional transformation processes.
The scholarship holder and the German host institution must jointly develop a project. The project must have a specific connection with a collection or an institutional transformation process.

Benefits and Financial Coverage
The scholarship covers the following:
✓ Net payment of EUR 1,500 per month
✓ Monthly family allowance of EUR 250 for a spouse travelling with the scholarship holder
✓ Monthly family allowance of EUR 250 per child travelling with the scholarship holder
✓ Visa costs
✓ Travel costs for outward and return journeys
✓ Health insurance, including family coverage
✓ Monthly public transport pass for the city of residence
✓ Up to EUR 500 for a language course
Who Can Apply?
The scholarship is intended for cultural practitioners with permanent residence in a country on the DAC list.
Eligible professional profiles include:
• Curators
• Restorers
• Mediators
• Culture managers
Applicants must:
• Work with cultural heritage, collections, or archive records in an institutional context.
• Name a non-commercial, physical host institution for each stay.
• Submit a concept note developed jointly with the host institution.
• Have completed higher education or vocational training.
• Have a very good knowledge of English.
German language skills or knowledge of the host institution’s country language are an advantage but are not mandatory.
Applicants cannot hold another scholarship or complete a parallel residence during the funding period.

Host Institution Requirements
The host institution must:
• Be a verifiably non-profit museum, gallery, or cultural or research institute.
• Have a physical location.
• Have a collection or an archive.
• Nominate a specialised contact person for the scholarship holder.
• Develop a specific project together with the applicant.
ifa – Institut für Auslandsbeziehungen is not a host institution.
Optional Reciprocal Stay
The programme may also support an optional reciprocal stay if synergies arise from a tandem project.
A cultural practitioner from the German host institution may complete a supplementary stay in a country on the DAC list. This stay may last between 2 and 12 weeks.
A joint application is required for both stays. Both stays must take place during the same scholarship year.

Required Documents
Applicants should prepare all documents before starting the online application. Temporary storage is not possible.
The required materials include:
• Proof of the host institution’s non-profit status or status as a corporation under public law
• Invitation letter from the host institution
• Letter of reference, such as a reference from a supervisor in the applicant’s home organisation or workplace
• Employment references confirming relevant work experience
• Contact details of the host institution
• Concept note developed jointly with the host institution
• Relevant personal information and CV details
The concept note must be signed by the applicant and the host institution. It should explain the tasks and responsibilities of the planned stay.

• Find and contact a suitable host institution.
• Agree on the length and dates of the stay.
• Identify a specialised contact person at the host institution.
• Obtain evidence of the host institution’s non-profit status.
• Prepare the invitation letter, reference letter, and supporting documents.
• Develop the concept note jointly with the host institution.
• Submit the complete application through the online form.
Incomplete applications, late applications, and applications submitted by email will not be considered.
