About the Mitacs Globalink Research Internship 2027
The Mitacs Globalink Research Internship is a competitive initiative for international undergraduate students from eligible partner countries and regions.
Selected applicants undertake research projects hosted by faculty members at Canadian academic institutions. Research opportunities cover disciplines ranging from science, engineering, and mathematics to humanities and social sciences.
The programme is available at more than 70 academic institutions across Canada.
Interns complete hands-on research while working with faculty members, graduate students, and research associates. The experience also combines academic research with professional skills development courses and social activities.

Financial Support

Eligibility Criteria
For the 2027 programme, applicants must meet the general Mitacs eligibility requirements as well as any additional requirements for their country and international partner.
Applicants must:
• Be at least 18 years old at the time of application.
• Be enrolled full-time in an undergraduate or combined undergraduate/master’s programme at an eligible institution.
• Have completed at least two years of undergraduate study or meet the applicable second-year requirement.
• Have one to three semesters remaining in their programme as of fall 2027.
• Meet the academic grade requirements applicable to their country of study and international partner.
• Have sufficient oral and written proficiency in the language of their selected research project, which may be English and/or French.
• Be available for a 12-consecutive-week internship.
• Complete the internship between May 1 and October 31.
• Be able to begin the internship between May 1 and July 31.
• Not have previously been awarded a Globalink Research Internship project.

Required Documents
A complete application must include all mandatory information and the required supporting documents.
Applicants must provide:
• At least one reference letter in English or French from a professor
• Official academic transcripts in English and/or French
• A translated and notarized transcript when the original transcript is in another language, where applicable
• A résumé or CV
The language of the academic transcripts must correspond to the language of the projects selected by the applicant.
The professor providing the reference letter should have supervised or co-supervised the applicant’s work. The professor must also be able to discuss the applicant’s academic and research experience.
The reference letter must be signed and provided on academic institution letterhead.

Selection Process
Mitacs assesses applications using several factors.

Internship Responsibilities
Selected interns are expected to complete a 12-week internship and work approximately 40 hours per week over five days each week.
Interns are expected to remain in Canada throughout the 12-week research period and complete the project deliverables required for successful completion of the internship.
Mitacs may also invite participants to industry events, government events, and professional development courses during their stay in Canada.
