The Wonju Literature Residency Program 2026 is open to writers who are connected to a City of Literature. It is an 8-week fully funded residency in South Korea, and selected participants will spend the program at the Toji Cultural Centre from 1 September to 31 October 2026. During the residency, the selected applicant will have time and space to work on creative projects in a peaceful environment.

Wonju UNESCO City of Literature Residency 2026 Overview

This residency also brings together Korean writers and artists at the same centre during the same period. As a result, residents can interact, build friendships, and learn from each other’s creative experiences. Moreover, the organizers cover all program-related expenses, and participation is free.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for the Wonju Literature Residency Program 2026, applicants must meet the stated conditions below:
• Have at least an upper-intermediate level of English or Korean
• Be connected to a UNESCO City of Literature
• Have at least 5 years of creative writing experience
• Have at least one published work translated into English or Korean
• Be willing to participate in literary events, meetings, interviews, and festivals during the residency
• Send the application before the deadline

How to Apply

Applicants must prepare a submission that includes personal information, literary works, awards, achievements, their literary world, the reason for coming to Wonju, the creative plan they want to complete during the residency, and how they will include the Wonju experience in new creative works. In addition, the text should be 1000–2000 words, written in 12 pt font, and should explain the applicant’s connection to a UNESCO City of Literature. Applications must be emailed to wonjucityoflit@korea.kr before the deadline.
