About the JET Programme
The Japan Exchange and Teaching Programme is administered through cooperation between Japanese local government authorities and several national organisations.
These include:
• Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications
• Ministry of Foreign Affairs
• Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology
• Council of Local Authorities for International Relations
The programme primarily aims to promote grassroots internationalisation at the local level.
JET participants become involved in internationalisation initiatives and foreign language education across Japan. Placements can involve local government offices, boards of education, elementary schools, junior high schools, and senior high schools.
The programme began in 1987 and has since involved participants from many countries.
The Australian application page is specifically intended for Australian citizens. Citizens of other countries are advised to contact a Japanese diplomatic mission in their home country.

How to Apply for the 2027 JET Programme
Applicants using the Australian application route must complete three requirements.
• Online Application Form: Complete and submit the official application form through Microsoft Forms.
• Self-Report of Medical Conditions Form: Complete the mandatory online health disclosure form.
• Supporting Documents: Submit the required supporting documents to the JET Desk by email before the application deadline.
Applicants must complete all required parts of the application.
Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.

Medical Documentation
All applicants must complete the Self-Report of Medical Conditions Form.
Depending on the information disclosed in that form, some applicants may also be required to submit a Statement of Physician.
When required, this document must be completed by a doctor and submitted with the other supporting documents.
Failure to provide the Statement of Physician when it is required can result in disqualification.
Preparing the Online Application
The official application forms are hosted through Microsoft Forms.
The Embassy notes that applicants may not be able to save their progress while completing these forms. Closing the browser before submitting may result in entered information being lost.
Applicants can therefore use the downloadable sample forms to review the questions and prepare their responses before completing the official online forms.
The sample PDF forms themselves cannot be used as the final application.
