About the Faculty for the Future Fellowships
The Faculty for the Future programme supports eligible women who are preparing for PhD study or postdoctoral research in STEM.
Applicants must be enrolled, admitted, or have applied to a host university or research institute abroad. Applications are no longer accepted from candidates who have not yet applied to a university or research institute.
The programme does not fund Master’s-level studies.
For sandwich programmes, the final degree must be awarded by the host university abroad or jointly with another institution. It cannot be awarded solely by the applicant’s home-country university.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements stated by the Schlumberger Foundation.
Candidates must:
• Be female.
• Be a citizen of a developing country or emerging economy where women are underrepresented in STEM disciplines.
• Be preparing for a PhD degree or postdoctoral research in a STEM field.
• Be enrolled, admitted, or have applied to a university or research institute abroad.
• Hold an excellent academic record.
• Be willing to return to their home country or region after completing their studies.
• Intend to contribute to the socio-economic development of their home country or region.
• Have a proven record of teaching experience in their home country.
• Demonstrate leadership skills and active community outreach.
• Have a track record of encouraging girls and women to enter STEM.
Applicants are not eligible if they hold dual citizenship and one of those citizenships is from a developed country.
Return and Career Commitment
The programme places significant emphasis on applicants returning to their home country or region after completing their studies.
Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to returning to:
• An academic or research position in a STEM faculty;
• STEM entrepreneurship that addresses challenges in their community or region; and/or
• Public-sector leadership that uses scientific expertise to support evidence-based STEM policymaking.
The eligibility criteria also emphasize commitment to encouraging girls and women to participate in STEM.

Selection Process
A successful application passes through four selection rounds.
Reviewers pay particular attention to:
• Academic performance
• Quality of references
• Quality of the host-country university
• Level of commitment to returning to the home country
• Commitment to teaching, STEM entrepreneurship, or policymaking
• Relevance of the proposed research to the home country
• Commitment to inspiring girls and women to enter STEM
The standard of the application and accompanying materials also forms part of the selection process.

Applicants are advised to ensure that all parts of their application form an integrated whole. The application should provide reviewers with a focused but well-rounded picture of the candidate and her career.
