AI Builder Cup 2026: Free JAPAC AI Hackathon
The AI Builder Cup 2026 is a hackathon for working professionals, entrepreneurs, and startups based in the JAPAC region. About the AI Builder Cup 2026
The AI Builder Cup challenges participants to create a working AI prototype rather than only a concept or pitch.
Each solution must function end-to-end and use Google Cloud’s technology stack. The prototype must also be successfully deployed using Cloud Run, Google Cloud Platform, or Firebase.
Only fresh projects developed during the hackathon timeline are eligible. Projects or work started before the programme launch will not be considered.

Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must meet the participation requirements stated in the official FAQ:
• Participants must be at least 21 years old.
• Participants must be based in the JAPAC region.
• The programme is for working professionals, entrepreneurs, and startups.
• Students are not eligible to participate.
• Every team member must be based in the JAPAC region.
• Cross-country teams within the JAPAC region are allowed.
• A participant cannot belong to two different teams at the same time.
• Each team may submit only one solution under one problem statement or theme.
If a student is found to be part of a team, the entire team may be disqualified, including after shortlisting or selection for the finale.
Team Requirements
Participants cannot compete alone during the building phase. Teams must consist of 2 to 4 members.
However, individuals may initially register alone and form or join a team later.
If a team is shortlisted for the Grand Finale, only two team members may travel to Singapore and attend the in-person finale. Third or fourth team members cannot attend the finale even if they offer to pay their own travel costs.
Team changes are allowed while the registration window remains open. The official FAQ states that registration closes on October 4.

Prototype Requirements
A complete full-scale product is not required. A working prototype is sufficient.
The prototype must:
• Demonstrate the idea working end-to-end.
• Be built using Google Cloud’s technology stack.
• Be deployed on Cloud Run, GCP, or Firebase.
• Be created during the hackathon timeline.
• Address one selected problem statement or theme.
Solutions built primarily on other cloud platforms are not eligible for evaluation.
Submission Requirements
Each team must submit the required materials for its solution.
These include:
• A working deployed link to the prototype
• A video demonstration of under three minutes
• A public GitHub repository for the prototype
• A deck explaining the solution in detail
Each team can submit only one solution under one problem statement or theme.
Judging Criteria
Submissions are assessed using four weighted criteria:
• Technical Merit & Gen AI Implementation: 40%
• Problem Alignment & Impact: 25%
• Innovation & Creativity: 25%
• User Experience & Solution Design: 10%
A scoring round takes place before the Grand Finale. This stage determines which teams are shortlisted to travel to Singapore for the finale.

Grand Finale and Travel Support
Shortlisted teams are invited to attend the in-person Grand Finale in Singapore.
Only two members from each shortlisted team may attend.
The sponsored travel support includes:

✓ Meals on the day of the Grand Finale
More detailed travel information is provided to shortlisted teams.
The programme announces the top teams approximately four weeks before the Grand Finale so shortlisted participants have time to arrange their Singapore visas.
Participation Cost
Registration and participation are completely free at every stage of the programme.
Participants can also access online sessions covering the overall programme and problem statements. These sessions are intended to provide additional clarity while teams develop their solutions.
Application Process
Interested participants should register through the official AI Builder Cup platform.
Participants may register individually before forming a team. They must later form or join a team that meets the programme requirements.
Teams should then develop a new eligible prototype, prepare the required submission materials, and submit one solution under their selected problem statement or theme before the applicable deadline.
