About the UK Winter Fellowship 2027
The UK Winter Fellowship 2027 is part of GovAI’s Seasonal Fellowships. These are three-month opportunities designed to help participants accelerate or launch careers in AI governance and policy.
GovAI offers the fellowship through two routes. The Research Track is for candidates who want to conduct research. The Applied Track is for candidates interested in non-research roles that contribute to AI governance.
GovAI was founded to help decision-makers navigate the transition to a world with advanced AI. Its work includes research and talent development in AI governance.
Fellowship Tracks
Applicants can consider two fellowship tracks based on their background and career interests.
• Research Track
• Applied Track
The Research Track is designed for research-focused roles. Participants conduct a research project of their choice and take part in expert Q&A sessions, seminars, and networking activities.
The Applied Track is designed for non-research roles. Fellows work on projects in areas outside traditional research, with project ideas pitched by GovAI or partner organisations.

• Blog post for an audience relevant to AI governance
Research Track fellows also take part in expert Q&A sessions, weekly seminars, workshops, work-in-progress meetings, and social events.

Past applied projects have included:
• Organising a high-impact event series
• Working as a project manager for policy engagement work
• Developing outreach and brand strategy for an AI safety organisation
• Designing an upskilling programme for policymakers
