The Undergraduate Ellison Scholars 2027 program offers fully funded undergraduate scholarships for study at the University of Oxford. Alongside their degree, scholars work on EIT research and innovation projects through internships focused on solving major global problems.

Overview

Undergraduate Ellison Scholars pursue a fully funded undergraduate degree in any discipline at the University of Oxford. At the same time, they work with the Ellison Institute of Technology Oxford on research and innovation projects.

The program is designed for academically excellent applicants who have used their knowledge and passion in action. In addition, EIT seeks candidates with ambition to make a real impact. Selection is highly competitive.

Internship Component

Internships are central to the Undergraduate Ellison Scholars program. Scholars complete ten weeks at EIT during each long vacation, or summer, between academic years.

During these internships, students work with EIT teams on existing projects. These projects aim to address global problems through science and technology.

Project Focus Areas

The internship projects span one or more of the following focus areas:

• Health, Medical Science & Generative Biology
• Food Security & Sustainable Agriculture
• Climate Change & Managing Atmospheric CO2
• Artificial Intelligence & Robotics

Preferred Skills

EIT is particularly interested in students with skills in areas such as:

• Computer science
• Artificial intelligence
• Economics
• Mathematics
• Robotics
• Plant sciences
• Machine learning
• Chemistry
• Biology
• Engineering
• Medicine
• Microbiology

However, the list is not exhaustive. Strong candidates who believe their skills would benefit one of the projects are welcome to apply.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants need to meet the University of Oxford entry requirements for their chosen undergraduate course. They must also meet the Undergraduate Ellison Scholars selection criteria before starting an application.

• Have, or be on track to receive, a secondary education or high school leaving qualification, diploma, or certificate accepted by the University of Oxford
• Meet, or be on track to meet, the minimum grade requirements for the chosen undergraduate course
• Meet, or be on track to meet, the University of Oxford English language requirements
• Meet the selection criteria for the Undergraduate Ellison Scholars program

Application and Selection Timeline

The application journey follows several stages.

• Applications open: 1 May 2026
• Applications close: 31 July 2026
• Semi-finalist selection: September–October 2026
• Semi-finalists apply to the University of Oxford through its separate and independent admissions process
• Finalists identified: January–February 2027
• Semi-finalists with an Oxford offer automatically progress to the finalist stage
• Ellison Scholars selected, onboarded, and announced: March–April 2027
• Scholars begin their first academic year and EIT Oxford engagement: October 2027
