About the NSIA Prize for Innovation 2026

The NSIA Prize for Innovation is an initiative of the Nigeria Sovereign Investment Authority. It is designed to support entrepreneurs and changemakers whose innovative ideas can create meaningful social and economic impact.

NPI 4.0 focuses on early-stage, growth-driven solutions. It provides funding and strategic support to help startups develop and scale commercially viable products.

For this edition, NSIA is working with partners including Cascador, the Presidential Initiative for Unlocking the Healthcare Value Chain, Wema Bank, and the Enterprise Development Centre of Pan-Atlantic University.

Programme Goals

The NSIA Prize for Innovation was established to strengthen Nigeria’s entrepreneurial ecosystem and support homegrown solutions.

The programme aims to:

• Recognise and reward Nigerian innovators and startup founders in key sectors.
• Act as an early-stage investment catalyst for innovators.
• Mentor and equip founders with tools for scaling and product-market fit.
• Connect startup founders to potential investors.
• Create a community that supports partnership across industries and sectors.

Target Sectors

NPI 4.0 focuses on innovative startups working in selected priority sectors.

The official FAQ states that innovators with products outside the listed sectors will not be considered for NPI 4.0.

Prize Pool and Awards

The NSIA Prize for Innovation 2026 offers a total prize pool valued at US$275,000.

✓ NSIA Prize for Innovation valued at US$220,000
✓ Cascador Prize for Impact valued at US$45,000
✓ Wema Bank Enterprise Prize valued at US$10,000
✓ Fully sponsored training at a partner institution

The official prize structure states that the top three winners will receive funding to support business growth and scale.

Prize Structure

The top three winners will receive funding support.

The official structure includes:

• First-place winner: US$100,000
• Second-place winner: US$70,000
• Third-place winner: US$50,000

The funding will be structured as a 75:25 mix of equity investment and cash support in exchange for an equity stake in the business. The equity stake will be determined after a valuation process.

Three finalists demonstrating exceptional social impact will receive the Cascador Impact Prize, with US$15,000 awarded to each recipient. Two finalists will receive the Wema Enterprise Award, valued at US$5,000 each.

Selected finalists may also access further growth opportunities through NPI 4.0.

The Pula Xcelerator investment pathway is designed for mature companies with proven traction and demonstrated revenue generation of at least US$500,000.

Programme Stages

The NSIA Prize for Innovation follows several stages.

The official programme stages include:

• Pre-selection Stage: Innovators submit applications through the application portal.
• Accelerator Stage: The top 100 finalists join virtual training, followed by an in-person bootcamp for the top 25 finalists.
• Mini Demo Day: A mini demo day selects the top 10 finalists.
• Demo Day: The top 10 finalists present their pitch to judges.
• Post Demo Day: The top 10 finalists join a fully sponsored training programme with a partner institution.

The Demo Day will be attended by a combination of local and international industry experts and investors.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the official application requirements.

To apply:

• One of the founders must be a Nigerian citizen.
• Applicants must be 18 years or older.
• Applicants must be running innovative and social impact-driven startups.
• The startup must have operated for not less than six months.
• The startup must be operating in or within Nigeria.
• The startup should be looking to raise a seed round.
• The startup should have developed a Minimum Viable Product.
• Applicants must be willing and able to commit to a four-week fast-track accelerator programme.
• Only one application is permitted per applicant.

The startups of the top 10 finalists must be registered in Nigeria.

Evaluation Criteria

Entries will be judged by a committee of five members. The committee will include industry experts and an NSIA representative.

The submission and review process will also be audited by an independent auditor.

Applications will be evaluated based on:

• Novelty of approach
• Impact
• Product design
• Scalability
• Proposed methodology, approach, and implementation plan
• Sustainability, environmental impact, and risk plan

Applicants should show what is unique about their innovation, how it solves real-world challenges, and how the solution can grow beyond the current stage.

Intellectual Property and Application Rules

NSIA states that it recognises the importance of patents and business solution protection. The official FAQ notes that participants are required to sign agreements designed to protect intellectual property and protect ideas from theft.

Applicants should also note the following rules:

• Registration is free.
• Only one application is allowed per applicant.
• Subsequent applications will be disqualified.
• Previous applicants may re-apply, except for top three winners from NPI 1.0 and top ten finalists from NPI 2.0 and NPI 3.0 editions.
