The NATO Internship Programme offers six-month internships at NATO Headquarters in Brussels for students in the third year of their university studies and for recent graduates of bachelor’s or master’s programmes. The programme gives interns the opportunity to gain professional experience while learning more about the inner workings of the Alliance.
Program Overview
Internships are available across a broad range of expertise and skillsets, including political affairs, defence and security, innovation, operations, communications, business support and human resources, finance, science and technology, and infrastructure and facilities. The programme includes positions within the NATO International Staff, the International Military Staff, and some NATO agencies and bodies at NATO Headquarters.
NATO states that the programme is designed to help interns learn from the NATO community, gain a better understanding and more balanced view of the Organization, contribute theoretical and technical knowledge through practical work assignments, support a more diverse workforce, and expand knowledge of NATO in member countries.
What Is Included
✓ A monthly stipend of EUR 1,335 in 2026 for interns selected for the NATO-funded internship programme
✓ A prepaid flight or train ticket from the place of origin at a return economy rate, up to EUR 1,200
✓ Reimbursement of travel costs if travelling to Brussels by car
✓ 15 days of paid leave during the six-month internship period
✓ An induction programme and monthly briefings on NATO’s activities and structure
✓ Opportunities to meet experienced staff and officials from across the Alliance and discuss topics of interest
✓ Organised visits to other institutions, including the European Parliament
Eligibility
• Applicants should be in the third year of their university studies, or be recent graduates of a bachelor’s or master’s programme
• NATO welcomes applicants from all member countries
• Women are strongly encouraged to apply
