About the Indigenous Women’s Program Fellowship 2027

Land is Life launched its Indigenous Women’s Program in 2022. The programme is designed and led by Indigenous women and supports Indigenous women and their organisations.

The fellowship began in 2023 under this programme. It supports the next generation of Indigenous women leaders working toward gender equality, community well-being, and recognition of land and resource rights. More than 15 women have implemented projects in their communities through the fellowship.

Applicants are expected to propose a community project with clear and achievable goals. The project should advance Indigenous Peoples’ rights, with particular attention to Indigenous women and girls.

• Land rights and territorial defense
• Food sovereignty and livelihoods

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the fellowship’s stated eligibility requirements:

• Be an Indigenous woman between 18 and 35 years old.
• Be able to speak English, French, or Spanish fluently.
• Not have previously been a Land is Life fellow.

The fellowship is open to Indigenous women from all seven sociocultural regions. Priority will be given to Indigenous women who do not hold a master’s or doctoral degree.

Priority will also be given to applicants from countries that have not previously participated in the Indigenous Women’s Fellowship Program.

Fellow Commitments

Selected fellows are expected to:

• Design and implement a community project within 10 months.
• Support their communities in promoting and protecting Indigenous Peoples’ rights, particularly the rights of Indigenous women and girls.
• Participate actively in bimonthly virtual training sessions and peer-learning activities.

Application Process

Applicants must complete the official application form and prepare a community project proposal. The proposed project must promote Indigenous Peoples’ rights, with particular attention to Indigenous women and girls. It should also align with the programme’s central themes.

Applicants must also provide:

• A completed application form
• A community project proposal
• A letter of recommendation from an Indigenous Peoples organization, a representative or leader from the applicant’s territory, or an equivalent official source

Late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
