About the Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarships

The Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarship is the University of Toronto’s award for international students. It recognizes outstanding academic achievement, creativity, and leadership potential.

Pearson Scholars are expected to demonstrate strong academic performance and the potential to contribute positively to the global community. Each year, approximately 37 students are named Pearson Scholars.

To be considered, students must first be nominated by their high school. They must also apply to undergraduate studies at the University of Toronto and begin their studies in September 2027.

The Pearson International Student Scholarships provide a full four-year scholarship for selected international students.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the University of Toronto’s stated eligibility requirements for the Pearson International Scholarship.

To be eligible, applicants must:

• Be an international student, meaning a non-Canadian requiring a study permit
• Be enrolled in the final year of senior secondary school in 2026/2027 or have graduated no earlier than June 2026
• Begin studies at the University of Toronto in September 2027
• Be nominated by their high school

Students who are already attending post-secondary studies are not eligible.

Students who are starting post-secondary studies in January 2027 at the University of Toronto or another post-secondary institution are also not eligible.

High School Nomination Requirement

Students must be nominated by their high school to be considered for the Lester B. Pearson International Student Scholarship.

High schools can nominate only one student per year. Schools that have previously participated will receive access to the nomination form beginning July 6, 2026.

If a school has not previously participated, it can apply to join the programme by noon (EST) on October 9th 2026.

Application Process

The application process involves both the high school nomination and the student’s University of Toronto undergraduate application.

Applicants should follow these steps:

• Confirm eligibility for the Pearson International Scholarship
• Ask the guidance counsellor, principal, or head of school about nomination eligibility
• Ensure the high school completes the nomination process
• Apply to at least one undergraduate programme at the University of Toronto
• Complete the Pearson Scholarship application after receiving the private application link
• Submit all required documentation before the scholarship deadline

The University of Toronto states that nominated students will receive a private link to the Pearson Scholarship application after nomination. Students can complete the scholarship form after submitting their application for admission to the University of Toronto.

Admission Application Requirement

Applicants must apply to at least one undergraduate programme at the University of Toronto to be considered for the Pearson Scholarship.

The deadline to apply for admission to the University of Toronto and be considered for the Pearson Scholarship is October 16, 2026.

Applicants may apply to up to three areas on their admission application. However, if awarded, the Pearson Scholarship will be restricted to the applicant’s top choice of programme at the time scholarship decisions are made.

Pearson Scholarship recipients can only be nominated by their current secondary school through the official online process. The scholarship is available only to undergraduate degree applicants.
