Undergraduate Ellison Scholars pursue a fully funded degree in any discipline at the University of Oxford. At the same time, they contribute to EIT projects focused on science, technology, and global problems.

The research and innovation projects are delivered as internships. Scholars collaborate with each other and with experts while developing practical experience alongside their academic studies.

Selection for the programme is highly competitive.

Summer Internships at EIT

Undergraduate Ellison Scholars complete 10-week internships at EIT during each long vacation between academic years. The internships connect scholars with existing EIT projects that aim to address global problems through science and technology.

Projects may focus on one or more of the following areas:

• Health, Medical Science & Generative Biology
• Food Security & Sustainable Agriculture
• Climate Change & Managing Atmospheric CO2
• Artificial Intelligence & Robotics

Academic Interests

EIT is particularly interested in applicants with skills in fields such as:

• Computer science
• Artificial intelligence
• Economics
• Mathematics
• Robotics
• Plant sciences
• Machine learning
• Chemistry
• Biology
• Engineering
• Medicine
• Microbiology

This list is not exhaustive. Candidates with skills relevant to EIT projects may also apply.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the University of Oxford entry requirements for their chosen undergraduate course.

Candidates must:

• Hold, or be on track to receive, a secondary education or high school leaving qualification, diploma, or certificate accepted by the University of Oxford.
• Meet, or be on track to meet, the minimum grade requirements for their selected course.
• Meet, or be on track to meet, the University of Oxford English language requirements for the chosen course.
• Meet the selection criteria for the Undergraduate Ellison Scholars Programme before starting an application.

Selection Timeline

The application and selection process follows this timeline:

1 May–31 July 2026: Application window
September–October 2026: Semi-finalists are selected and apply separately to the University of Oxford.
January–February 2027: Semi-finalists who receive an Oxford offer automatically progress to the finalist stage.
March–April 2027: Ellison Scholars are selected, onboarded, and announced.
October 2027: Scholars begin their first academic year at the University of Oxford and their engagement with EIT Oxford.
