The Stephen Young Global Leaders Scholarship 2026 supports scholars of exceptional merit who will undertake the Strathclyde MBA or an MSc in Strathclyde Business School on a full-time, one-year basis in Glasgow starting in September 2026. The scholarship includes full Strathclyde MBA or MSc fees and a stipend for living costs during the academic year.

Stephen Young Global Leaders Scholarship 2026 Overview

The Stephen Young Global Leaders scholarship programme honours Professor Stephen Young, former Head of the Department of Marketing and supervisor and mentor to Dr Charles Huang during his PhD studies. The programme is supported by the Charles Huang Foundation donation to the University of Strathclyde.

The scholarship aims to develop global leaders in society and business. In addition, scholars join the wider Stephen Young Institute of International Business community while completing their MBA or MSc studies at Strathclyde Business School.

Enhanced Leadership Development

All scholars study as part of the full-time MBA or MSc cohort within Strathclyde Business School. Alongside their academic programme, they benefit from enhanced leadership development coordinated by the Stephen Young Institute of International Business.

Subject to programme requirements and available places, scholars may apply for one of several additional opportunities. These may include an international summer school placement with another university, a special research project through SYIIB, or, for MBA students only, MBA elective classes at Strathclyde’s international MBA centres.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants must meet the stated eligibility requirements.

• Meet the admissions criteria for the chosen Strathclyde full-time MBA or MSc programme
• Apply to the programme only after successfully completing the SYGL scholarship selection process and holding a scholarship award
• Demonstrate exceptional academic merit in the scholarship application
• Provide evidence such as a first-class undergraduate degree from a UK university or an equivalent academic qualification from a comparable non-UK institution
• Be a self-funded student without access to other funding sources, such as corporate sponsorship or another scholarship
• Attend a formal interview if shortlisted, either in person or virtually
• Understand that interview attendance does not guarantee a scholarship

Eligible Subjects and Study Mode

The scholarship applies to postgraduate taught study. It is available for full-time study only.

Eligible subject areas include Accounting and Finance, Business, Data Analytics, Economics, Entrepreneurship, Management, Management Science, and Marketing. The listed fee status categories are England or Northern Ireland or Republic of Ireland or Wales, Home Scottish, and International.

Applicants must complete the official online process.

The MS form must be completed in one sitting. The official page states that there is no option to save the form and return to it later.

Selection Process

All applications are submitted online through a formal application form. After submission, applications are reviewed, and some are shortlisted by a Strathclyde Business School panel.

A Selection Committee is then appointed to consider shortlisted applications. The committee is chaired by the Executive Dean of Strathclyde Business School or a nominee, together with senior academic representatives. Decisions are made by simple majority. If no decision can be reached, the Chair makes the final decision. Recommendations are shared with the Charles Huang Foundation, and the University makes the final selection decision.
