The University of Geneva Excellence Master Fellowship 2026 is a merit-based financial award offered by the Faculty of Science at the University of Geneva in Switzerland for outstanding students who wish to pursue a Master of Science (MSc) degree in scientific disciplines such as biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, computer science, environmental sciences, pharmacy, earth sciences, and related fields.
Fellowship Benefits
Selected recipients will receive:
● A grant of CHF 10,000 – CHF 15,000 per year to support living and study expenses during their master’s studies.
● No teaching duties — students can focus fully on academic and research work.
● The fellowship is initially awarded for one year and renewed for the regular duration of the master’s programme (typically three or four semesters), provided the candidate demonstrates academic success after the first semester.
Who Can Apply?
This fellowship is open to candidates who meet the following criteria:
● Are international or Swiss students admitted (or in the process of admission) to an eligible Master of Science programme at the University of Geneva.
● Have excellent academic performance, often among the top of their bachelor’s cohort.
● Have completed (or expect to complete) a bachelor’s degree and meet the admission requirements of the chosen master’s programme.
Eligible Programmes
The fellowships support MSc studies in scientific areas offered by the Faculty of Science at the University of Geneva, including but not limited to physics, chemistry, biological sciences, mathematics, computer science, pharmacy, earth and environmental sciences.
Application Process
To apply for the fellowship, candidates must first begin the master’s programme application at the University of Geneva. Once registered, applicants will receive a personalised link to complete the Excellence Master Fellowship application. The application should include (as a single PDF):
● A scan of passport or national ID
● Curriculum Vitae (max 2 pages)
● Transcripts from bachelor’s studies with grades
● A motivation letter describing scientific interests and goals
● Letters of recommendation (typically two) from academic referees
● Any relevant test results (e.g., TOEFL, GRE) if available
