Overview

The University of Auckland International Student Excellence Scholarship is a scholarship of up to $10,000 towards compulsory tuition fees for new international undergraduate and postgraduate students.

The scholarship was established in 2016. Its main purpose is to attract new international students of high calibre to enrol in undergraduate or postgraduate study of one year or more at Waipapa Taumata Rau, University of Auckland.

Applicable Study

The scholarship is for new international students enrolling in undergraduate degrees, PGDip or masters programmes.

Scholarship Value

Successful applicants can receive up to $10,000 for either postgraduate study or undergraduate study. The scholarship is for tuition fees.

Duration

The tenure of the scholarship is one year.

Number of Awards

Up to 50 scholarships are available. The offer rate is bi-annually.

Opening Dates

Applications open on 18 February 2026 for the Semester 2, Quarter 3, and Quarter 4 intake.

Applications also open on 9 September 2026 for the Semester 1, Quarter 1, and Quarter 2 intake.

Closing Dates

The closing date is 1 April 2026 for the Semester 2, Quarter 3, and Quarter 4 intake.

The closing date is 21 October 2026 for the Semester 1, Quarter 1, and Quarter 2 intake.

How to Apply

Applicants are asked to read the regulations carefully to ensure they are eligible before applying. They must then click the “Apply now” button and complete the online application form. The University recommends checking the form early in case a reference or endorsement is required and to become familiar with the form. All sections, including request sections, must be completed by the closing date, which is midnight on the specified date unless stated otherwise.

The University also recommends not having two different scholarship applications open within the same browser. Outcomes are determined by a selection committee and are usually notified around eight weeks after the closing date.
