Overview

The Queen’s Commonwealth Writing Competition 2026 is an international writing competition organized by the Royal Commonwealth Society. It invites young writers from across the Commonwealth to share their ideas, perspectives, and creativity through written expression.

The competition is open to participants under the age of 18 and is divided into two categories based on age.

Categories

Senior Category

• Ages 14–18 (inclusive)

Junior Category

• Under 14 years of age

Participants must enter the category that corresponds to their age at the time of submission.

Themes

Senior Category Topics

Participants in the Senior Category can choose one of the following topics:

• Imagine a future where people live on the moon. Write about a day in your life there.
• Write a story about a time when you or someone you know had to overcome a fear.
• “We all have a role to play in creating a more equal world.” Write about what this means to you.

Junior Category Topics

Participants in the Junior Category can select one of the following:

• Write a story about a secret door that leads to a new world.
• Imagine you could talk to animals. What would they say?
• Write about your favourite place and why it is special to you.

Eligibility

The competition is open to all citizens and residents of Commonwealth countries. Entrants must be under 18 years of age on the date of submission.

Submission Guidelines

• Entries must be written in English
• Each participant can submit only one entry
• Submissions must be original and unpublished

Deadline

All entries must be submitted by 23 May 2026.

Awards

Winners of the competition receive recognition from the Royal Commonwealth Society, including certificates and opportunities associated with the competition.
