National Taiwan Library Fellowship 2026 is open to international visiting scholars who want to carry out academic research at the National Taiwan Library. The fellowship supports projects in Taiwan Studies or Southeast Asian Studies and provides both an airfare subsidy and a monthly research grant.

National Taiwan Library Fellowship 2026 Overview

This fellowship was established to strengthen cooperation and academic exchange with foreign institutions. It also aims to encourage and support experts and scholars from foreign universities or research institutes who plan to conduct research at the National Taiwan Library. The fellowship period is generally 3 to 6 months. However, it cannot cross into another year, and it cannot be deferred to the following year.

What the Fellowship Includes

The National Taiwan Library Fellowship 2026 offers two main forms of support.

✓ One economy-class round-trip airfare subsidy based on the most direct route to Taiwan, reimbursed at actual cost
✓ Maximum airfare support of NTD 35,000 for awardees from Northeast Asia and Southeast Asia
✓ Maximum airfare support of NTD 60,000 for awardees from other regions
✓ A monthly research grant of NTD 60,000 for awardees with a doctoral degree
✓ A monthly research grant of NTD 40,000 for awardees without a doctoral degree

Eligibility

Applicants must meet one of the approved eligibility routes, and they must not be currently engaged in research, teaching, or studies in Taiwan.

• Professors, associate professors, assistant professors, lecturers, postdoctoral researchers, doctoral candidates, or Ph.D. students in relevant departments of foreign universities
• Library personnel and researchers of equivalent rank at related academic institutions
• Applicants recommended by an institution that has signed an international academic cooperation MOU with the Library, provided their research topic matches the approved subject areas
• Applicants currently engaged in research, teaching, or studies in Taiwan are not eligible

Research Areas

Eligible projects must primarily fall within the humanities and social sciences. In addition, research topics must be limited to Taiwan Studies or Southeast Asian Studies.

Required Documents

Applicants must submit all required materials online during the application period. Incomplete submissions will lead to disqualification.

• Curriculum Vitae, including a list of publications
• Research proposal, generally limited to three pages in Chinese or English and prepared according to academic research conventions
• Recommendation letter in PDF format, to be sent by the referee to liao1108@mail.ntl.edu.tw with the subject line: Recommendation Letter for [Applicant’s Name]
• Letter of Approval from the highest administrative authority at the applicant’s home institution

Application Process

The application for the National Taiwan Library Fellowship 2026 is online only. Paper applications are not accepted. The online application link is available from the announcement date until April 20, 2026. Recommendation letters submitted after April 20, 2026 will not be accepted.

Results and Award Positions

The Library plans to publish the list of awardees on both the Library website and the Taiwan Studies Research Center website by the end of April 2026. This schedule remains subject to the Library’s actual operations. In principle, there will be 1 to 3 primary award positions and up to 2 alternate positions. However, the final number may be adjusted, or positions may remain vacant, depending on available funds and evaluation results. Registration for awardees will be accepted from June 1 to June 30, 2026.

Deadline

Applications are open from the announcement date until April 20, 2026. Therefore, applicants should complete the online form, prepare all documents, and arrange the recommendation letter before that date.
