The Joint Japan/World Bank Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) 2026 is a fully funded international master’s degree scholarship offered through a partnership between the Government of Japan and the World Bank. It supports mid-career professionals from eligible developing countries to pursue postgraduate studies in development-related fields at selected universities around the world, including in the United States, Europe, Africa, Oceania, and Japan.

Scholarship Benefits
Selected recipients will receive:

Full tuition coverage for the graduate programme
Monthly living stipend to support housing, food, books, and daily expenses
Economy-class round-trip airfare between your home country and host university, plus a travel allowance for each trip
Basic medical insurance through the host university
● Funding for the duration of the master’s programme or up to two years, whichever is shorter

Who Can Apply?
This scholarship is open to candidates who:

● Are citizens of a World Bank member developing country
● Do not hold dual citizenship with a developed country
● Hold a bachelor’s degree earned at least three years before the application deadline
● Have at least three years of paid, full-time development-related work experience after earning their bachelor’s degree, acquired within the past six years
● Are admitted unconditionally (except for financing) to one of the JJ/WBGSP participating master’s programmes outside their country of citizenship and residence by the scholarship application deadline
● Are in good health and meet all eligibility requirements

The scholarship supports master’s programmes in priority development areas at partner universities in multiple regions, including:

Africa
Oceania
Japan
Programmes cover fields such as economic policy, public administration, development practice, environmental management, and other development-related disciplines.

Application Process and Timing
Applications are typically organized in two windows for developing country nationals:

Application Window 1: 15 January – 27 February 2026
Application Window 2: 30 March – 29 May 2026
Applicants must secure unconditional admission to a participating master’s programme before submitting the scholarship application.
