ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme 2026 in Spain
Country: Spain
Organization: Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ)
Program: ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme 2026
Category: Internship
Deadline: March 22, 2026
Duration: Up to 3 months
The ICIQ Summer Fellowship Programme 2026 offers up to 10 fellowships for national and international undergraduate students. The programme gives selected students the opportunity to learn, work, and live in a research environment in chemistry, with placements in one of ICIQ’s research groups between June, July, August, and September.
Host Institution
The fellowships are financed by the Institute of Chemical Research of Catalonia (ICIQ). The programme page also states that the Summer Fellowship Programme 2026 will be supported by the ICIQ Severo Ochoa CEX2024-001469-S grant funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/501100011033.
Fellowship Overview
Selected students may spend up to a 3-month paid internship in one of ICIQ’s research groups. During the fellowship, participants will be mentored and supervised by a PhD student or a postdoctoral researcher and will carry out research projects with scientists working at the forefront of their fields. They will also receive training and have access to ICIQ seminars and conferences.
By the end of the internship, Summer Fellows must present a short report and a presentation on the work completed and the results obtained.
Eligibility
The programme is open to undergraduate students with a background in Chemistry, Physics, Biochemistry, Chemical Engineering, related disciplines, or other related areas. The source clearly states that applicants with different studies will not be considered.
Applicants should preferably be in their 3rd year and/or last year of undergraduate studies, or have completed 50% of their credits by the time they accept the fellowship. Graduate students are not eligible for this call.
The source also notes that, depending on nationality, selected fellows may need a student visa and should make sure the visa is ready before the beginning of the stay.
Fellowship Conditions
The research stays at ICIQ will run from June 1st to September 14th, with a maximum stay of up to 3 months. Fellows will receive a stipend of 30€ per day, with a maximum of 900€ per month, for the period of their in-person stay at ICIQ. If part of the fellowship is completed remotely by agreement with the supervisor, no stipend will be provided for that period. If the stay is shorter than 3 months, the amount will be proportional to the time spent at ICIQ.
For beneficiaries considered non-residents, the source states that article 25 of the TRILNR establishes a general withholding of 24%. For taxpayers resident in a Member State of the European Union or the European Economic Area, the withholding will be 19%.
Health Insurance
Fellows with nationalities outside the EU must obtain their own medical insurance for the duration of their stay at ICIQ. EU nationals must obtain their European Health Insurance card before arriving at ICIQ.

Required Documents
Applicants must complete the application form and submit a motivation letter, a CV, and an academic record. The motivation letter should express the applicant’s interest in joining ICIQ that summer and should also indicate availability for the start and end dates of the stay.
The academic record must be a transcript since the beginning of the Bachelor’s programme and should show the programme, university, dates, credits in each course, grades and corresponding scale, and average if available. If the academic record is not issued in Catalan, Spanish, or English, a certified translation into one of those languages must be provided.
Application Process
Only applications submitted online through ICIQ’s Career Portal will be considered. The programme page also states that applicants must complete the application form and upload the required documents as attachments.
Applicants may select up to two ICIQ research groups, but the first option will always be prioritized in the selection process.
Selection Process
The evaluation and selection process will be carried out by an internal selection committee composed of the Summer Fellow project supervisor and supported by the Human Resources team. Submitted applications will first be checked for eligibility, and those not meeting all criteria will be rejected. The page also states that it will not be possible to modify the application or add missing documentation after the deadline.
Selection is merit-based and follows the requirements in Section I, using the motivation letter, academic record, and CV. All candidates will be notified by the end of April. After all successful candidates accept, a final list of awardees will be published on the ICIQ website.
To be admitted as a Summer Fellow, candidates can begin their stay at ICIQ from June 1st up to September 14th, and the exact dates must be included in the application.
