EMABG Erasmus Mundus Joint Master 2027 (€1,400 Monthly Scholarship)

The European Master in Animal Biodiversity and Genomics (EMABG) is a two-year Erasmus Mundus Joint Master taught in English. Students study at two of the programme’s six consortium universities. For the third intake, applications are open from 15 September 2026 to 15 January 2027, with a limited number of EMJM scholarships offering €1,400 per month for 24 months.

About the EMABG Erasmus Mundus Joint Master

EMABG focuses on Animal Breeding, Biodiversity and Genomics. The programme is designed for motivated students with backgrounds in Animal Sciences, biology, or related fields who want to specialise in these areas.

Applicants of any nationality, economic background, or social background may apply if they meet the programme’s admission requirements.

Students complete their studies across two consortium universities. The curriculum includes academic coursework, specialised study tracks, practical learning, and master’s thesis work.

EMJM Scholarship and Financial Coverage

A limited number of EMJM scholarships are available for each intake. The programme states that approximately 15 scholarships are available per intake.

Confirmed scholarship support includes:

Students should also consider several important conditions. Scholarship recipients must pre-finance travel to their first-year university or the university hosting the Welcome Course. Scholarship payments are made to a European bank account after arrival.

Students are also responsible for their accommodation costs during the Welcome Course, Summer School, and Graduation Event.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should hold an academic Bachelor of Science degree worth at least 180 ECTS in Animal Science.

Graduates from other relevant bachelor’s programmes may also be considered if they demonstrate the required knowledge and skills in areas including:

• Mathematics, biostatistics, or bioinformatics
• Zoology, anatomy, or physiology of farm animals
• Biodiversity or breeding
• Genetics or genomics
• Agricultural sciences and animal production

Applicants who already hold an MSc degree in a similar field cannot be accepted at the University of Goettingen.

English Language Requirements

Applicants normally need to submit one of the accepted English language certificates.

Accepted options include:

• TOEFL iBT: minimum score of 92, including at least 23 in speaking
• Academic IELTS: minimum overall score of 7, including at least 6.5 in speaking
• Cambridge CAE/C1 Advanced: score of 180–210, Grade C
• Cambridge CPE/C2 Proficiency: score of 180–230 or Grade C

Language certificates must have been taken no more than two years before the application deadline.

Applicants who completed a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Australia, Ireland, Canada except Quebec universities, New Zealand, the United Kingdom, or the United States may not need to submit an English language proficiency certificate when all stated programme conditions are met.

The degree must have been completed entirely in English, must not have been part of a double-degree programme involving study in another country, and must have been an on-campus programme.

The consortium may still request an English language proficiency test from any applicant.

Required Application Documents

Applications must be submitted through the EMABG application database. Only complete applications submitted through the database are considered.

Documents must be submitted in PDF format, except for the required motivation video.

Applicants are required to prepare:

• Bachelor’s degree certificate, or BSc merged with MSc certificate when applicable
• Complete transcript of records
• English translations when academic documents are not in English
• Passport scan showing personal details and photo
• Certificate of current residence
• Curriculum Vitae, preferably in Europass format
• Applicant photo
• Required English language certificate, where applicable
• Letter identifying three preferred study tracks
• Two recommendation letters from different professors or employers
• Motivation video

The preferred study-track letter should explain why the applicant wants to study in the selected tracks. It is not intended to be a general motivation letter.

The mandatory motivation video must be between one and two minutes long, submitted as an MP4 file, and have a maximum file size of 50 MB.

Selection Process

All complete applications that meet the admission criteria are evaluated by the EMABG selection committee.

Applications are assessed according to four weighted criteria:

• 50% Diploma and Transcript of Records: including academic excellence and the relevance of the applicant’s academic background
• 20% Motivation Video: based on personal motivation, interest, and experience
• 20% Curriculum Vitae: including relevant activities, internships, additional experience, or work experience
• 10% Recommendation Letter

The programme states that applicants receive scores from 1 to 10 for the selection criteria. The weighted scores are then combined to produce a provisional ranking.

If applicants receive the same final score, the candidate with higher academic excellence is ranked first.

The selection process also aims to maintain geographical and gender balance and applies equal-opportunity principles. In most cases, the programme can select a maximum of two candidates from the same country.

Selection interviews are not conducted.
