About the Consilium Traineeships 2027
The Consilium traineeship programme gives graduates from different academic backgrounds practical experience of EU policy-making and the Council’s daily work.
The Council offers traineeships twice each year, with 110 positions available annually. Trainees can work in areas including:
• Policy
• Law
• Administration
• Communications and media relations
• Translation
• Information technology
• Human resources
• Other Council services
For the upcoming cycle, selected trainees will complete their placement from 1 February to 30 June 2027.

Benefits and Financial Support
The Council provides paid traineeships with allowances and other benefits.

Trainees recruited from more than 50 kilometres from Brussels may be entitled to a contribution toward travel expenses at the beginning and end of the traineeship, subject to the applicable conditions.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants for the main Consilium traineeship programme must meet the stated eligibility requirements.
• Be an EU citizen
• Hold a university degree at bachelor level or higher by the application deadline
• Have a very good knowledge of English or French at C1 level
• Have a very good knowledge of at least one other official EU language
• Not have completed previous paid or unpaid training or employment lasting more than six weeks at an EU institution, body, agency, or office
There is no age limit for applicants.

What Trainees May Work On
Tasks depend on the team and area of assignment.
Trainees may be involved in activities such as:
• Preparing meetings and drafting minutes
• Attending meetings of Council preparatory bodies
• Conducting research for projects
• Collecting, organising, and analysing data
• Assisting with documents, notes, and publications
• Supporting events and communication activities
• Translating documents
Applicants choose two preferred traineeship areas during the application process.

Applicants should:
• Create an account to access the application system
• Complete the application form
• Provide information about their education, training, skills, languages, and relevant experience
• Select two traineeship areas
• Write a motivation statement for each selected area
• Submit the application before the closing time
The application form is available in English and French. Applicants must have a thorough knowledge of one of these languages to complete the application.
Supporting documents are not required when initially submitting the online application. However, successful candidates must later provide evidence supporting the information entered in their application.

Selection Process
After the application deadline, the traineeships office reviews applications to confirm eligibility and shortlist suitable candidates.
The process includes:
• Application submission
• Eligibility review and shortlisting
• Online or telephone interview for shortlisted candidates
• Final traineeship offer for successful applicants
Candidates selected for an interview for the February traineeship period are contacted no later than December.
Successful applicants must provide supporting documents, including identification and proof of their qualifications.

Applications for the February–June 2027 Consilium traineeship period must be submitted by 15 September 2026 at 12:00 Brussels time.
The traineeship itself runs from 1 February to 30 June 2027.
