About the Amelia Earhart Fellowship 2027
The Amelia Earhart Fellowship was established in 1938 in honour of aviator and Zonta member Amelia Earhart.
The programme supports women conducting doctoral research in aerospace engineering and space sciences. It aims to advance women’s participation in these fields by providing financial support for their academic studies.

Since the programme began, Zonta International has awarded 1,824 Amelia Earhart Fellowships to 1,395 women from 81 countries.

Sharon Langenbeck Amelia Earhart Fellow
One of the 30 Amelia Earhart Fellows selected each year will be designated the Sharon Langenbeck Amelia Earhart Fellow.
The designation recognises Sharon Langenbeck, a former Zonta International President and two-time Amelia Earhart Fellow.
The Zonta International Amelia Earhart Committee selects the recipient according to pre-established criteria.

Amelia Earhart Fellowship 2027 Eligibility Criteria
The Amelia Earhart Fellowship welcomes applications from women of any nationality who meet its academic and research requirements.
Applicants must satisfy the following conditions:
• Be pursuing a Ph.D. or doctoral degree.
• Demonstrate a superior academic record.
• Conduct research applied to aerospace engineering or space sciences.
• Be registered in a full-time Ph.D. or doctoral programme.
• Have completed at least one year of the doctoral programme or have received a master’s degree in an aerospace-applied field at the time of application.
• Not graduate from the Ph.D. or doctoral programme before April 2028.
The fellowship does not support postdoctoral research programmes.
Applicants Who Are Not Eligible
The following individuals are not eligible to apply:
• Club members and individuals with direct membership in Zonta International.
• Employees of Zonta International or the Zonta Foundation for Women.
• Previous Amelia Earhart Fellows seeking to renew the fellowship for a second year.
Recipients of a Zonta fellowship or award who received a complimentary one-year supporting membership may apply during that membership year. However, they cannot apply for the same fellowship or scholarship they previously received.
