About the MARIHE Erasmus Mundus Joint Master

MARIHE is a master’s programme focused on research and innovation in higher education. It is supported by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union under the Erasmus Mundus Joint Master action.

The consortium includes the University for Continuing Education Krems in Austria as coordinator, together with partner institutions in Finland, Germany, Hungary, Portugal, China, and India.

The programme is designed as a high-mobility study experience. Students study at different partner institutions and complete an internship as part of the curriculum.

Programme Structure and Mobility

MARIHE is a 120 ECTS programme completed over 4 semesters.

The mobility path includes:

• First semester at the University for Continuing Education Krems in Austria
• Second semester at Tampere University in Finland
• Third and fourth semesters through specializations in Asia and Europe
• Mandatory internship that can be completed worldwide
• Master’s thesis at one of the specialization hosts

Students attend the partner institutions physically during all study periods, including the internship. Remote participation is not possible.

Funding and Financial Coverage

MARIHE offers tuition-free master’s studies. The official page states that participation costs of EUR 18,000 are covered for all students who participate in the programme.

Eligibility Criteria

MARIHE is open to students from all over the world and all nationalities.

Applicants must meet the admission requirements, including:

• Hold a first university degree with a minimum duration of three years of full-time study
• Have a qualification corresponding to 180 ECTS, such as a bachelor’s degree
• Prove sufficient English language skills for academic purposes
• Demonstrate strong motivation and interest in development and management of research and innovation in higher education

The first university degree does not need to be in a specific field or subject. Work experience is not an admission requirement, but it may be an advantage, especially when gained in higher education institutions.

English Language Requirements

Applicants must prove English proficiency through an accepted test certificate or an eligible exemption based on previous studies.

Accepted English language certificates include:

• TOEFL iBT with a minimum score of 92
• IELTS Academic with a minimum overall score of 6.5 and no individual score below 5.5
• PTE Academic with a minimum score of 62
• Cambridge C1 Advanced with minimum grade C
• Cambridge C2 Proficiency with minimum grade C1

Other test certificates, university letters stating proficiency, or similar documents are not accepted unless they meet the stated exemption rules.

The MARIHE application process has two rounds.

For Round 1, all applicants must submit nine mandatory application documents:

Assessment Criteria

MARIHE uses a two-round review process.

Round 2 assessment criteria include:
