The IAPS AI Policy Fellowship 2026 is a fully funded, three-month professional development programme offered by the Institute for AI Policy and Strategy (IAPS) in the United States. It is designed for professionals and early-career talent from diverse academic and professional backgrounds who want to strengthen practical skills in AI policy, research, and strategic decision-making to help shape national and global governance frameworks for advanced artificial intelligence systems.
Fellowship Benefits
Selected fellows will receive:
● A stipend to support full-time participation — $15,000 for Fellows and $22,000 for Senior Fellows depending on experience level
● Two-week in-person residency in Washington, D.C. at the start of the programme where fellows engage in trainings, briefings, workshops, and networking with AI policy experts
● Continued engagement on mentored policy projects for the remainder of the fellowship, either in person in D.C. or remotely
● Weekly guidance, one-on-one mentorship, and professional coaching to strengthen research and policy analysis skills
● Support budget that can be used for professional events such as conferences or meetings with mentors or coordinators
Who Can Apply?
This fellowship is open to candidates who:
● Come from diverse professional and academic backgrounds, including government, research, technology, law, think tanks, and policy sectors
● Have an interest in strengthening their understanding of AI governance, regulation, and strategy
● Can commit to the full fellowship period and participate in the mandatory in-person residency in Washington, D.C.
Fellowship Duration and Format
The IAPS AI Policy Fellowship runs for three months from 1 June to 21 August 2026. It begins with a required two-week in-person residency in Washington, D.C. followed by approximately 10 weeks of mentored project work that can be completed remotely or in person.
